RG Group Commitment to BIM – our journey so far
At RG we are constantly looking for ways to improve the design and information coordination on our projects. BIM allows us to standardise our project data process, making sure this data is accessible to all team members from anywhere and at any time.
BIM allows the virtual construction of a facility prior to its actual physical construction, in order to reduce uncertainty, improve safety, work out problems, and simulate and analyse potential conflicts.
As a main contractor, it is vital that project planning and scheduling is accurate from day one. BIM allows us to link our programme to our designers models, building up an animation of the construction sequence. This is what’s known as the 4th dimension of BIM, or 4D. This intelligent data allows us to construct virtually and reduce errors prior to actual construction. This not only saves time but just as importantly, enables us to communicate our build methodology faster and more effectively to our clients, planning authorities and the public.
Traditionally there can be a lot of lost data once a project is completed and handed over to the owner or facility manager. With BIM this problem is eliminated as the facility manager can refer directly to the BIM model for any technical data needed to assist in operating and maintaining the facility successfully.
