Project completion for our latest exciting scheme for Unite Students
We have successfully handed over our latest exciting project for Unite Students in Oxford.
Parade Green Student accommodation is on land previously owned by British Telecom and is situated off James Wharf Road and Hollow Way in Oxford. The development boundary is made up of the original stone walling from the days when the site use to be an army barracks.
The development provides 887 bedrooms in cluster flats, common/study areas, a gym, games room, two laundry areas, refuse storage as well as commercial space units all within 14 blocks. These blocks range from three to five storeys and to accommodate the development there is a strong presence of landscaping throughout, which extends to the scheme’s external boundaries facilitating cycle storage.
Start on site was January 2018 with a duration of 87 weeks resulting in an intended practical completion date of 31st July 2019. Working hours to complete project have totalled 503,066 with an average of 230 operatives on site each day.
A retail unit and café area has been provided on a shell only basis in accordance with the Unite Retail Specification.
The reception incorporates office, postal and parcel rooms, meeting and welfare space for the Unite operational team in addition to a standalone office area.
Along the way to completion there were a few hurdles to overcome, but none more greater than loosing RG’s long serving Construction Manager Dave Irons due to Prostrate Cancer half way through the construction phase of the scheme. Everyone associated with the project became more motivated in ensuring this scheme would not only be handed over on time, but to a level above and beyond one Dave Irons would have been proud of.
