RG Group Staniforth House

RG Group were appointed the Design and Build contract for the erection of a 15,200m2 new student accommodation complex on a site previously occupied by a self storage facility.

The new development comprises of a tiered height structure, 14 storeys to the west of the site on its Lancaster Street frontage, 6 storeys on its Staniforth Street frontage and an 8 storey block connecting them. The building contains a total of 586 bedrooms with associated common rooms and meet and greet areas.

The project commenced with demolition of existing including asbestos removals. The new building was constructed on CFA piled foundations. The reinforced concrete structure comprised of modular bathroom pods and timber stud and plaster partitioning throughout. The works included full internal fitout, decorating and FFE installations, lighting, fire alarm systems, power, ancillaries and data, with trades efficiently progressing vertically through the building from ground up. Externally constructed with SFS framing, a mixture of cladding and glazing panels finish the elevations.

Landscaping including an external terrace and amphitheatre with associated cycle parking tied the scheme into the surroundings.
The project was BREEAM assessed, achieving ‘Excellent’. Furthermore, the project scored ‘Excellent’ (41/50) under the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
