RG Group were appointed the main contractor works for the refurbishment and conversion of the existing office building over ground to fourth floors, to form a new 246 bed student accommodation with retained Grade 2 listed façade for the students of Bristol University. The scheme also included the restoration of a Grade 2 listed horse bazaar at the rear of the site.
The restrictive confined site is located in a predominantly commercial area to the rear of Bristol civic offices and is steeply terraced to the rear with several residential properties overlooking.
The works included the demolition and strip out of existing, new lifts and stairs accompanied the structural amendments to the building. New single ply roofs were constructed with PV panels installed. A large curved glazed external feature staircase was installed alongside new windows and SFS framed and cladded sections between the retained brickwork façade elevations.
Full fit out works were carried out under the same scheme.
Externally S278 refresh works to St Georges Road were carried out, new carpark surfaces, cycle shelters, street furniture, landscaping, drainage and finishes. Tree planting works, courtyard art works and the creation of an ecology zone finished off the scheme.
The project was BREEAM assessed, achieving ‘Excellent’. Furthermore the project scored ‘Excellent’ (42/50) under the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
