Unite. Causeway, Aberdeen

unite aberdeen construction

The project comprised the construction of 399 self-contained bedroom in cluster flats and studio apartments. The scheme required a mix of new build and refurbishment of two listed buildings. The new structure housed 344 of the rooms over 6 floors and wass constructed using a LGSF (light gauge steel frame). The external facades included the reuse of granite in key areas, having been reclaimed from several outbuildings, as well as new granite, cladding and render.

The remaining 55 beds were located in a building that was once the home of the former Causewayend school, a listed building that had been empty for many years and has suffered extensive fire damage. All structural works have been sympathetically carried out using local tradesmen to create a bespoke living space over 3 floors of mezzanine studios.

A second listed building was also refurbished to create a self contained office / conference space for Unite staff plus a common room for students. Extensive landscaping was implemented throughout the scheme and upgrades to local road infrastructure were carried out.
