RG Group were appointed the main contractor to complete the Construction of Redhill Travelodge, as part of a larger £45m development scheme incorporating a new Sainsbury’s, Gymnasium, multi storey carpark levels, new entrance canopy to the theatre/library and various public realm and S278 works.
The Travelodge was constructed over two floors positioned above the top level of car parking. The Travelodge had two entrance lobbies, one from the basement car park and one at street level and provides 68 rooms (4 accessible rooms, 14 family rooms and 50 standard rooms). The Travelodge also comprised of a guest reception area, restaurant/kitchen plus staff offices and various linen & plant rooms. The hotel is traditional steel framed, power floated concrete floor slabs and Eurobond externally clad. Access is via two lifts and a wide staircase that allows customers to reach 4th and 5th floor levels of the hotel.
The site was awarded ‘Ultra’ site status within ‘Considerate Constructors Scheme’ becoming a trail and innovation site for cutting edge industry innovation, receiving nationwide acclaim for best practice, achieving ‘top 3 contributor’ on their best practice hub and receiving open visits from Main Contractors looking to replicate the successes. Works were ‘carbon neutral’, working with the local Job Centre on Go Construct initiative.
