The project comprised the demolition of existing factory unit with the construction of new 96,000 sq ft supermarket with parking for 438 vehicles at ground level with store, warehouse and service yard raised at first floor level. Extensive Section 278 road works were required and construction of new pedestrian & cyclist’s ramp to link Retail Park to Town Centre.
Key challenges were the 278 works and associated STATs diversions that dictated programme duration and the associated new pedestrian walkway / ramp linking main foot path to existing Retail Park to enable existing underpasses to be infilled.
A BREEAM rating of Very Good was achieved in addition to a Considerate Constructors Gold Award for 2015 plus Runner Up in Most Considerate Site award 2015. Many community initiatives were undertaken including provision of a fishing jetty, made from recycled plastics.
