RG Group were appointed through competitive tender the constructed of a new 50,000 sq ft supermarket for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Limited at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
The store incorporated an in-store bakery, hot food counter, customer café, goods on-line, customer toilets, Argos & Starbucks concessions, coldstores in the warehouse area, an external service yard and customer car parking facilities (including electric car charging points). The building also included a first floor mezzanine level for the colleague domestic area.
The building structure consisted of ground works, piled foundations, steel frame superstructure, Eurobond roof / wall cladding and curtain walling to the shop front and entrance lobby.
The scheme also consisted of extensive Section 278 works and services diversions. The Section 278 highway works involved the phased widening of Gatehouse Road (A41), Bicester Road and the adjoining roundabout, all of which had to be completed prior to the store opening.
