M&S. Clapham Junction, London

rg build m&s clapham

The Marks and Spencer Clapham store re-opened on the 12th September after a 23 week programme including the strip-out of the existing clothing and food store, asbestos removal and fitting out the store to a new food concept specification.

The abundance of new ideas for M&S includes the Infarm display, a sparkling mirrored pizza oven, wine and coffee sampling units, neon perimeter signage and interactive buttons that children can press (Oink Oink, Cluck Cluck and Mooo).

The property has been in the M&S portfolio since the early 1900s and has changed shape over the last 100+ years, with the high street footprint expanding in to the adjacent property and rear extension in the 1960s, giving the store an unusual dog leg.

This new concept store leaves the exposed shell and all new services on display giving a timeline through the ages. A new one-off ceramic tiled floor, new lighting design and brandwall finishes gives the store a new style that “protects the M&S magic”.
