Morrisons. Sittingbourne

morrisons sittingbourne retail construction

This project was for the construction of a new Store for WH Morrisons in Sittingbourne, Kent. The store comprised of a ground floor sales area of approx. 36,000 sq ft, with supporting staff and ancillary areas, external car park areas, footpaths and landscaped areas. The works also included the construction and fit out of a new six pump petrol filling station and kiosk.

The store was sited on the old papermill, an existing water tower sat within a proposed new car park area, supporting “live” telecommunication masts. This required protection as the works proceeded until such time as it was demolished midway through the scheme. The site also had an existing “live” fibre optic cable which ran through the new store footprint, and an existing deep storm water sewer which required diverting.

The new store was adjacent to an existing railway line and embankment on one boundary. This required liaison fully with Network Rail and Kent County Council’s Highways department during the whole period of the works to ensure all health and safety provisions were being correctly managed.
