This project for London Dockside is a cutting edge modular build with each module compromised of shipping containers. The containers were all built to order off-site and delivered, ready for installation when needed. This 8 storey hotel is spread out over 86,410 sq. ft and full of luxurious bedrooms, conference rooms and a ground floor restaurant/breakfast area and bar.
The building was designed with a loadbearing brick façade and elaborate detailing to hark back to the areas industrial warehouse heritage.
As part of the development, space that was consented for office use has been revised to become further bedrooms, meeting rooms and a separate full service restaurant. Newham Borough has a design-led development focus which has meant for a challenging process for building a budget hotel in the post Olympics era.
The scheme is to achieve BREEAM ‘Very Good’ and is part of a wider consent for three hotels on this site – serving London City Airport and the Excel Centre. Initial development work started in January 2015.
