The project consisted of demolitions followed by the construction of an Asda store, Costa restaurant, fuelling station and off site S278 works.
Construction began with substructure foundations including RC strip beams, ground slabs and drainage. Unit constructions consisted of steel frames with steel canopy supports to the front elevations. External facades consisted of a mixture of Rainspace cladding, Corium facing brick cladding and timber cladding. The roof is a standing seam construction with cladding and canopies to the service yards and external facades.
Internally, stairs and a glazed entrance lobby was constructed with associated finishes undertaken alongside external service installations including drainage, sub-station and statutory installations, in advance of the shop fit out proceeding.
External off site S278 elements consisted of new highway and footways with anti skid coatings, bus lay-by, tactile paving, pedestrian islands, drainage, street lighting, soft landscaping and line marking. The car park construction incorporated drainage, concrete bases for ‘click and collect trading’ points, cycle stands, service yard with gates, lighting, hard and soft landscaping, walls, fencing, signage and street furniture.
Extensive value engineering included alternate fencing specifications, thermoplastic anti-skid in lieu of epoxy, alternate brise-soleil and roofing specification, alternate doors, gates, roller shutters and curtain walling.
The project finished within budget in accordance with the commercially sensitive sectional completions.
