RG Group were appointed to build a new shell for Marks and Spencer in a space made available by demolition of a bowling alley in a live retail park.
The shell works consisted of CFA piled foundations with a steel frame and fibre mesh ground floor slab. Hollow deck slabs were installed on 1st and 2nd floors and the the structure was clad with composite panel cladding, curtain walling and a feature canopy with ashlar stone features. Internally the shell was completed with perimeter blockwork block work The roof construction was made up of trocal and liquid membrane roofs.
Due to the nature of the trading retail park there was minimal compound and working area. On the existing B&Q boundary only 1.2m working space was available and fire escape etc had to be maintained at all times throughout the works.
