The project comprised the construction of the new IKEA store over 35,000ft2 including a separated multi-storey carpark providing 1,223 spaces.
Over 1,600 concrete piles some 20m deep, 5,000m3 of concrete and 4,300 tons of steel formed the foundation and structural frame for IKEA store and 4 storey car park. A total of 11 lifts, 2 conveyors and an escalator were installed for vertical and horizontal circulation. The store is over 2 floors with an additional mezzanine timber floor constructed over the racking steel frame forming extra storage areas with its own 3 goods lifts and conveyor belt system.
11 air handling units, 5 extractor fans and 2 chiller units located on the roof serve the store building which is fully cladded with 13m long composite cladding panels. The ground source heatpumps utilising 25 number 150m deep boreholes providing sustainable heating and a 200m deep water well extracting 2,0000 litres of groundwater every 4 hours from a natural aquafer running below the site which will be used for flushing toilets and watering plants used in the extensive landscaping around both sites.
