IKEA. Milton Keynes

Ikea. Milton Keynes, retail construction

Construction of a 32000sqm new Ikea store in the center of Milton Keynes. The store was built with 1000 car parking spaces, of which 65% were under the store footprint.

The development had to be compliant with the local clean air act, plus the following other renewable technologies: Biomass burner, wood burner, and rain water harvesting. Specific design details also had to be incorporated into the design from the local design code, i.e. forming a gullwing roof effect. Use was made from the extra internal space to house the  buildings plant provisions, removing everything from the roof.

Close relationships and management of the retail team was required so that effective co-ordination of the overall process could be achieved.

The project delivered 4 weeks faster than any other Ikea new build of its type in the world at that stage, whilst maintaining a high emphasis on quality of the finished product and  achieving Ikea’s detail standards.
