Topping Out at Unite Students Wembley
Friday 22 January marked the traditional topping out ceremony of the latest Unite Students development which is located on the iconic Olympic Way in North West London.
The £31m private student accommodation property will open its doors officially in September and is dominated by Wembley Stadium which stands at the southern end of Olympic Way.
Completion of the highest point marks a significant milestone in the 93 week project.
The ceremony saw guests from Unite Students, Main Contractor RG Group and partners Middlesex University London getting a sneak preview of the breath-taking city and Stadium views from the highest point of the building.
From September the property will become home for 699 students Middlesex University students following a new partnership agreement between Unite Students and the University.
The property itself comprises an 18 storey linear student accommodation block with two projecting retail blocks, raised gardens and terraces at the lower levels with ground floor courtyards and public spaces.
Richard Simpson, Unite Students Managing Director – Property commented:
“Today marks an important milestone in our latest project. It’s also an opportunity for us to thank all those involved particularly the men and women who have worked on the construction of what will be a visually impressive landmark on the North West London skyline.
“The development, the 9th project we have worked on with RG Group, is the most ambitious yet. As with all our properties Wembley Way has convenient access to transport links, and is close to shops and amenities. The property will also include communal spaces designed to enhance students’ living and learning experience, en-suite shared flats, high speed Wi-Fi and LED lighting, throughout.
“The Middlesex University students who will call the place home from September will also have one of the best possible views of the iconic Wembley Stadium.”
Simon Felstead, RG Group Project Manager added:
“In January 2015, main contractor RG Group began laying the foundations for this prestigious 19 storey student accommodation block in the shadow of the famous Wembley Stadium. As we now celebrate ‘topping out’, we can reflect on the achievements of the past year and the great effort afforded by the whole project team. Like all projects it has thrown up many challenges all of which have been met head on by everyone involved.
“RG would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute and thank the whole RG Group project team, the consultant team and the supply chain along with all those who have contributed to reaching this key milestone today.
“We remain excited and privileged to be working on this high profile scheme for Unite Students, maintaining our reputation of successfully delivering on value, quality and providing innovative solutions in our approach.”
