Project completion at Middlesex Street

RG Group recently undertook the design and build of a new 24 and 16 storey building for Unite Students in the heart of London.

The building consists of of 93 studios (including 9 DDA studios) and 100 cluster flats, each with between 4 – 10 bedrooms and a communal living area. Totaling 913 units of accommodation, the development includes spacious common areas, gymnasium, performance and exhibition area, a cinema room, study areas, a laundry and a basement area for cycle and refuse storage. A new public realm has also been constructed around the development as part of the works.

The construction team faced a number of challenges through the development including the positioning of the tower cranes on a restricted site surrounded by busy city roads. In addition, a large LED advertising screen had to be removed from the site and a live substation had to be worked around through most of the build.

The project also had to redesign the sub and super structures following the discovery of a Shakespearean theatre of archeological interest on the site.
