It can be difficult enough living in a city like London without the added pressure of an international airport on your doorstep and so, as part of our commitment to Considerate Constructors and in line with our community engagement programmes, we wanted to help the local community create a space where they can escape the everyday hustle and bustle.
Astra Centre, funded by community links, is a children and young people’s resource centre located just around the corner from our Marriot Hotel site. For a while now the local community has planned to make use of the green space opposite the centre to create a space to grow vegetables, put in new plants and have picnics and BBQs.
On Saturday 9th November volunteers from the project team installed fences, built plant pots and planted a tree. The plant pots were made using old pallets from the site, a great way of recycling them to ensure they didn’t go to waste. The tree was planted as part of The Big Climate Fightback run by the Woodland Trust. The aim is to get 1 million people to plant a tree by the 30th of November 2019, helping to combat the climate crisis.
A massive thanks to everyone who gave up their Saturday to help and a very special mention to London Building Group who volunteered to install the fences as well as building the plant pots.
