Work starts on Crosslane Student Development in Coventry

RG Group are ready to start work on the Crosslane Group 604 bed student accommodation building in Coventry. The scheme comprises 134 studio apartments, 77 en-suite cluster flats and 10 two bed flats. Also included in the development are dedicated communal areas, common room, study room, gym, cinema, kitchen/dining room and private outdoor courtyard. The Crosslane business has a completed property portfolio of purpose-built student accommodation assets across Europe comprising over 3,100 beds and valued at over €250 million and with an established and proven track record for identifying, developing and managing sustainable student accommodation solutions of the future.

The site is situated on a parcel of land between Friars Road and St. Patricks Road in the heart of Coventry city centre. The building, being the shape of a horseshoe on plan and comprising of floorplates ranging from 20, 10, 6, 5 and 3 storey conjoined blocks, is due to commence on Monday 23 October 2017 and is programmed for completion on Friday 28 June 2019, some 88 weeks later. The building frame, supported off piled foundations, will comprise of a combination of insitu and precast concrete, with all vertical elements of the frame being precast. The envelope solution comprises of a combinations of masonry, curtain walling, isolated windows and rainscreen cladding, with the roofing being a mixture of green roof construction and hot melt waterproofing system. The internal fit-out of the studios, cluster flats and communal areas will comprise of drywall partitions, prefabricated bathroom pods, building services installations, passenger lifts and all the usual finishing elements of a building Project. Our work also includes the construction of a standalone energy centre comprising of substation and plantroom, together with areas of external of hard and soft landscaping located within a central courtyard accessed from Friars Road.
