Bird Box Painting With Local Nursery
The RG Group project team engage the help of a rather younger set of students!
The project team, along with representatives from our client ‘Unite Students’, visited the Aston University Nursery and Preschool in Birmingham on 21st March to get some well needed help in painting a number of bird boxes destined for the new student accommodation block.
The project, which includes the erection of a part 6, 10 and 14 storey building to provide student accommodation comprising of 586 beds, is subject to BREEAM recommendations including the installation of bird, bat and/or insect boxes at appropriate locations on the site.
Rather than just install the boxes, RG’s Julie-Ann Lambert and Gary Ellison thought it would be great to ask some local children to help decorate the boxes first. They spent a morning, along with other RG and Unite team members, at the nursery working alongside the youngsters who painted the boxes with some fantastic patterns and colour schemes.
Julie-Ann said, “It was great to work with the children and to spend some time in the local community. It is very important to us to have this sort of community engagement wherever we have a construction project”.
The nursery children were able to keep some of the boxes they painted while the rest were taken to site for installation. Many thanks to the children and everyone who took part from RG and Unite Students, especially RG’s John McGee who worked tirelessly to source the boxes and painting materials. A special mention also for Gary Ellison for getting more paint over himself and his trousers than any of the children!
